These animals are found in Sulawesi and Buton Island, and have been protected as endangered species since the Dutch colonial era.

Types And Characteristics Of Anoa

In terms of biology, anoa enters subgenus of Bubalus, which can be found in Indonesia with two types, namely anoa living in the (Bubalus depressicornis) and anoa living in the mountains or mountain anoa (Bubalus quaarlesi). Anoa that live in the mountains usually stay at an altitude between 1,000 and 2,300 masl.

Research conducted on anoa valleys shows that these animals can live on average up to 20 years in the wild, while their age can last longer in zoos. Unfortunately, there isn’t much information about how long mountain anoa can survive in the wild.

Anoa has a special form of flat horn on the front head. This horn is not facing forward but straight back which forms a triangle. Anoa that has fully grown weighs between 150 – 300 kg. Anoa hair is usually black or dark brown, and this color becomes brighter around February and April, especially in the neck, head and arm area.

Recommended Read

ELephant back safari

Bali Safari ticket without Hotel transfer

Reproduction

At the age of 2 years, anoa generally experiences sexual maturity and is ready to carry out the reproductive process. Although the reproductive period of anoa can occur throughout the year, female anoa only gives birth once a year. This is because the pregnancy period is quite long, which is 275 to 315 days.

Anoa is a solitary animal, however female anoa who wants to give birth feel safer and more comfortable in the middle of the herd. Anoa babies can walk alone a few minutes after giving being born. The role of male anoa in the process of caring and protecting anoa babies is unknown because of the lack of research on this herd.

Endangered Animals

The number of anoa habitats in the whole whole world is not much, estimated at around 3.000 to 5.000. Their population has indeed decreased a lot since the 1900s because of poaching to take their flesh, skin and horns. In addition, the cause of the decline in anoa population is also due to the decreasing habitat of their lives displaced by human settlements.

IUCN has designated this animal as an endangered animal, this is also recorded in the US Federal List. Therefore, a high commitment from the Indonesian government and the community at large is needed to protect and preserve the anoa population so they can survive until many years to come.

While your visit to Bali Safari Marine park, please prepare your camera to shoot this creature and keep on your camera, as you will see this animal our safari journey.

Others animal also will see like Rhino, Hippo, Tiger ect.

Check Also

Bali Safari Park Dragon Package

Read Jungle Hopper package

Giraffe feeding schedule

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Anoa, The Midget Buffalo Anoa is one of the original Indonesian animals commonly called midget buffalo, since it looks like a buffalo in small size.
